When Suzanne BeDell, JO’81, learned about the impact a scholarship could have on a student’s Drake experience, she knew she wanted to make a difference.
Since academic publishing has been an important part of her career, she chose to support a scholarship for students pursuing careers in technology and related fields and created the Suzanne BeDell Endowed Scholarship for Digital Proficiency.
“A good education is a powerful equalizer,” said Suzanne. “I was afforded many advantages as a result of my education from Drake. I’m excited to be in a position to help others have the same opportunities given to me.”
When asked what she hoped her scholarship would achieve, Suzanne responded, “Life today is underpinned, for better or worse, by technology. Confidently engaging with technology is key to mastery in most professions. But even more important is the need for people with diverse backgrounds and strong ethics to build platforms that allow society to engage in a robust marketplace of ideas that I was introduced to at Drake. I know this is a lofty goal, but I hope recipients of this scholarship will graduate with the digital and ethical acumen to make a positive impact on media and society.”
