Cyclones supporting Drake
Kent and Lou Ann Sandburg
Iowa State alumni, and long term Des Moines residents, Kent and Lou Ann Sandburg have enjoyed the fine arts at Drake, which started with their involvement with the Friends of Drake Arts. They feel the multitude of performances, many of them free, adds great quality of their lives. They especially enjoy performances at the Turner Jazz Center and the Keys to Excellence performances at Sheslow Auditorium.
They attended their first performance at Drake about 20 years ago, which inspired them to purchase a student practice piano in memory of Kent’s mom, Ethel Ross. Ethel was an accomplished pianist and had attended Drake in 1935. Shortly after, the Sandburgs created two endowed scholarships for music.
Kent and Lou Ann were able to meet students who were directly benefiting from their scholarships. Impressed with the impact their scholarships were having, they decided to support The Ones campaign by including Drake in their estate to further support their two endowed scholarships: The Ethel Ross Sandburg Scholarship for Piano Study and the Kent and Lou Ann Gerhard Sandburg Music Scholarship.
The Sandburgs heartily invite all to Drake who want to experience culture and performances that will further enrich their lives.
